Pastor Janet Mathistad
I have served at Bethany Lutheran and Deering Lutheran since 1994. I grew up in western North Dakota as a preacher’s kid, and attended college at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, majoring in English and German Literature. I completed my seminary education at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN, while also spending 3 years in Germany as a nanny and as an exchange student at the University of Tubingen. Following seminary, I returned to serve in mission with the folks of North Dakota. My first parish was the Max-Douglas Lutheran Parish where I served from 1989-1994. I and my husband Todd have raised our three children here, and are about to become empty nesters. Outside of Bethany, I enjoy reading, bicycling, and playing viola in the Minot Symphony Orchestra.
Pastor Gerald Roise
For the past ten years life has been filled with the blessing of serving as a pastor at Bethany Lutheran. My wife LuAnn and I have greatly enjoyed the wide variety of activities the members of Bethany participate in living out their call to be disciples. In our time serving here we have tried to model our understanding that faith is a verb. We witness and confess our faith through our activities of helping and serving each other and those in need.
Previous to being at Bethany we lived at rural Powers Lake where we operated a family farm. LuAnn also taught Home Ec at both Powers Lake and Stanley. We have three grown and married sons, two at Powers Lake and one in Iowa. The enjoyment of eight grandkids is a huge part of our life, ranging in age from newborn to 11 years old.
Besides the fulfilling experience of being pastor, my hobbies center around the craft of making things from wood. I also enjoy helping people and find the role of mission work here in our community and elsewhere a growing passion.
Bethany is a special place to serve in ministry. We work at being a relational church, knowing that we want to have a relationship with Christ but that is often nurtured and encouraged through a relationship with each other.
I was born and raised in Norfolk Virginia, where some of my family still reside. I left Virginia in 1989 to join the United States Air Force and I spent almost 26 years serving our country all over the world. While serving, I completed both my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and my Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education. I am presently a school teacher until the summer of 2019, as I continue transitioning into ministry.
I am married to an amazing woman, Kathy Jo (Nelson) and we have three children, Lyn-Marie (age 28), Thomas (age 24), and Leif (age 12). We also have three grandbabies that we just can not get enough of. My free time is spent working in the yard, reading, and spending time with Kat.
Originally from Carpio, ND the daughter of Ronald and Blanche Johnson, I have lived in N.D. all my life. I am married to Stacy Abrahamson for almost 20 years now. We have one daughter, Hallie, who has started her freshman year at NDSU-Go Bison! I have 3 stepsons and a grandson, Joshua and his son Hunter(Minot), Jordan(Fargo), and Justin(Minot). We ranch south of Blaisedale on the Roy Abrahamson farm where we currently raise cattle and a couple horses. We also own and operate Abrahamson Trucking here in Minot. In my spare time, I enjoy running after the kids & their sports, spoiling my two puppies (Izzy & Dora), gardening, cooking, haying and looking after cows. Before coming to Bethany Lutheran Church, I had spent many years at Center for Family Medicine in the billing office. I am very excited to become a part of Bethany Lutheran Church as Office Manager! Everyone has been so kind and welcoming!
My husband Charlie and I have been married for 25 years and we live in Minot. Our kids and granddaughters live in Texas. I grew up in Velva and my parents still live there. My brother and his family live in Bismarck and my sister and her family live in Sidney MT. We enjoy spending as much time as possible with our family. With our kids and grandkids in Texas we don’t get to see them as much as we would like but skype helps a little. I also enjoy baking. I am the Office Secretary here at Bethany!
